Why the wallet comes in the same box

Most people own a bag and a wallet that have never met. The bag was chosen; the wallet was inherited, or bought in a hurry at an airport, or came free with something. They are different leathers in different years, and the one you take out in front of a till is the one that does not match.

Selling them together fixes that, and it is the only reason this catalog is built the way it is. Each box below is named by what is in it, so you can decide which size is honest for you rather than which one sounds generous.

Two pieces: the bag and its wallet

The smallest box. A hobo, a work satchel or a backpack purse, plus a folding wallet cut from the same embossed panel with the same gold-tone hardware. Nothing else.

If you already own more pouches than you use, this is the box. It costs less than the deeper ones, the bag is identical to the bag in them, and you are not paying for a wristlet that will live in a drawer.

Three pieces: the bag, a pouch and a full wallet

The middle box, and the one with the biggest wallet. Card slots down both inner faces, a note section that takes paper flat, and a zip for coins. The pouch that comes with it is a flat zip case: the thing that holds a charger and a pair of headphones without them wrapping themselves around a hairbrush.

This is the box to take when the wallet matters more than the second bag. The deeper boxes swap it for a slim card holder.

Four pieces: the set that covers a week

The main bag, a crossbody about half its width, a flat clutch or wristlet, and a card holder. Four separate bags, and the crossbody is the piece people reach for second: it has its own adjustable strap and goes out in the evening while the big one stays at home.

Four is also the widest choice of shapes here: a structured top handle tote, a slouch hobo, a deeper large hobo, and the work tote with a padded laptop sleeve. Choose the shape first. The count is the same in every one of those boxes.

Five pieces: the deepest box

A 13 inch shoulder tote with a 10.7 inch strap, a crossbody, a zip wristlet, a folding wallet and a card holder. The tote is the widest of the structured bags, which is the width where a letter folder lies flat.

The argument for five is not that you carry all of them. It is that the evening bag and the card case are decided before you go looking for them, and they match the tote because they were cut from the same panel on the same day.

Which box is the honest one

Count what you would reach for in a week. If the answer is the big bag and a wallet, buy two pieces and spend the difference on something else; the bag is the same bag. If you travel, or if you change bags for the evening, the crossbody in a four or five-piece box is worth more than the price difference between the boxes.

And if you are buying for someone else, the deeper box is the safer guess, because the pieces they do not use still match the one they do.
