How to pick a size without guessing
Measure the laptop, not the bag
Lay your laptop on the table and measure the long side. A 15.6 inch machine needs a bag with a 16 inch opening, and a tote that fits a 13 inch one will not take it however soft the sides feel.
Check the strap drop against your coat
Strap drop is the distance from the strap at your shoulder down to the top of the bag. Six inches sits under the arm and rides over a coat; ten inches lets the bag hang at the hip. Both are printed on every product page.
Count the pieces you carry on an ordinary day
